Daily Itinerary
Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Big Tree Camp (2,820m)
Drive from hotel to Londorossi Gate for registration. Trek through lush, moss-draped rainforest with frequent sightings of black-and-white colobus monkeys.
Mti Mkubwa (2,820m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Ascend out of the forest canopy into the heather moorland zone. Cross the vast western slopes onto the Shira Plateau with expansive views of Mount Meru.
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
A gentle acclimatization day crossing the volcanic plateau towards Shira 2 Camp. In the afternoon, take a short acclimatization hike to Shira Cathedral.
Shira 2 to Lava Tower (4,630m) & Descend to Barranco Camp (3,970m)
Crucial acclimatization day: Climb high, sleep low. Hike up to the iconic volcanic Lava Tower at 4,630m for lunch before descending into scenic Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp over the Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp (3,995m)
Tackle the famous, exhilarating Barranco Wall. Non-technical scrambling opens to breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and southern glaciers.
Karanga Camp to Barafu Base Camp (4,673m)
Trek across alpine desert to Barafu Camp. Savor an early warm dinner and rest before the midnight summit push.
Midnight Summit Push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descend to Mweka (3,100m)
Wake at 11:30 PM. Climb by headlamp past Stella Point to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise: The Roof of Africa! Descend triumphantly to Mweka Camp.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) & Summit Celebration
Final scenic descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your official gold summit certificates and celebrate with your mountain crew.
